Building Access: ADA Compliance & Site Auditing for Parks and Recreation
This two-day workshop provides parks and recreation professionals with the opportunity to experience firsthand how to apply Title II requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (28 CFR Part 35) and the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design in a park environment. Participants will examine accessible parking, routes of travel, restrooms, playgrounds, shelters, picnic areas, and athletic facilities through a combination of focused instruction, structured discussion, and hands-on site audit activities using standardized assessment tools. This training builds both technical skills and a broader understanding of how accessibility supports dignity, independence, and equitable community participation. Attendees will learn about common barriers, how to document findings, and how to develop practical, prioritized recommendations that foster a culture of inclusion.
