Employee Background Checks
NC Session Law 2025-16 HB 612: A new state law goes into effect October 1, 2025 that may impact your hiring protocols for positions that “require an applicant for employment to work with children in any capacity.” For these positions, even if part time or seasonal, the local government must require the applicant, if offered the position, to be subject to a fingerprint-based state and national criminal history record check conducted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
