The Funding Greenways, Parks, and Trails worksop is the latest in the Growing Greenways series of events to bring timely and relevant information to parks professionals and recreation planners. This workshop will feature a keynote address from former Florida DOT bike / ped coordinator, Dan Burden. He has been named by TIME as one of “the six most important civic innovators in the world.” His thoughts about walkability and cycling programs have made him one of the most popular experts in this field, and he has been recognized by the White House as one of the Top Ten Champions Of Change in Transportation. Additional speakers will discuss various types of funding strategies, including corporate partnerships, special events and membership groups, and various grant opportunities. An in-depth tutorial about how to engage support for parks and recreation bond referendums will also be included.
This workshop will provide attendees with valuable information about ways to finance greenways, parks and trail projects through a variety of sources including traditional state and federal grants, partnerships with private entities, as well as ballot initiatives for recreation bonds. Speakers will relate their experiences with successful initiatives and provide step-by-step instructions for how to apply these techniques at the local government level in North Carolina.
We will have optional social the night before at Fonta Flora Brewery located at 317 N. Green Street in Morganton at 6:00 PM. Representatives from the Fonta Flora State Trail and Catawba River Greenway planning teams will be there to talk about their experiences with funding strategies. Cost is $10 per person for pizza. Does not include beverages which can be purchased on site.
