2018 Certified Playground Safety Inspector Course
Recreation Resources Service annually serves as the North Carolina host for the Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) course at the McKimmon Center at NC State University. The certification is offered by the National Certification Board in coordination with the National Recreation and Park Association. The purpose of the CPSI certification is for those certified to be able to: identify hazards on public playground equipment and the playground; rank the hazards according to injury potential; and apply the knowledge to remove the hazards and establish a system of inspections and maintenance.

Innovative Park & Recreation Facilities Teleconference
New options for recreational facilities are expanding to incorporate creative play spaces and open up activity choices for previously under-served members of the community. Both large municipal areas and small rural towns are getting in on the act – and the creativity they are showing us is both inspirational and instructive. We’ve selected four great projects to feature from across North Carolina: Rocky Face Park in Alexander County; the Ninja Playground in the City of Graham; the Cashie River Treehouses in the Town of Windsor; and the multi-generational playground at Marion Diehl Park in Mecklenburg County. Each has taken a unique approach to bring play space to a broader range of participants and have become a source of pride for those responsible for creating them.
