After 11 years of service to parks around North Carolina for Recreation Resources Service, Pete Armstrong is retiring as longtime director. Armstrong is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and joined the Rocky Mount Parks and Recreation Department in 1978 as a community center supervisor. Under 30 years of his leadership, the department expanded to eight divisions, added four parks and increased parkland to more than 520 acres. He took on the leadership of RRS director in February 2007, and has enjoyed his role serving parks and community around the state for the past decade. His vision, friendly demeanor, and in-depth knowledge of recreation practices will surely be missed by the RRS team and Parks and Recreation colleagues around North Carolina.
We bid Pete farewell and best wishes as he moves on to the next chapter in his life!
