Linda Smith is the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Chapel Hill where she oversees the department’s day to day operations and supervises each of the divisions within the Parks and Recreation Department – Administration, Recreation, and Park Maintenance. Prior to her time in Chapel Hill, Linda served in the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department for the Town of Cary in various roles over a 16-year period, including Assistant Athletic Supervisor, Cary Tennis Park Supervisor, Sports Events Development Coordinator, and Business Development Manager. Through these various roles, Linda brings valuable experience and insights in a variety of areas including event planning and implementation, athletics programming, budgeting, staff supervision and professional growth, long term planning, and developing partnerships, to name a few. Linda graduated with a B.S.E in Recreation from the State University of New York College at Cortland and a M.A. in Sport Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional. Additionally, Linda stays actively involved in the field on a state and local level. On the national level, she volunteers with the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) by serving as a Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) site visitor and served a four year term on the Board of GP RED, a national non-profit that strives to bridge the gap between research and practice. On the state level, Linda has served in various roles with the North Carolina Recreation and Parks Association (NCRPA), including two years on the Board of Directors, and has volunteered with the North Carolina Tennis Association (NCTA) for more than 10 years.
